SEGAS
The Hellenic Athletics Association (SEGAS) was the first Sport Federation ever founded in Greece. Since 1897 SEGAS has cultivated all sports long before other Federations were established. Having initiated the Balkan Games in 1928 and the Mediterranean Games in 1934, SEGAS was awarded the Olympic Cup from the IOC in 1935 for its services to sports and the diffusion of Olympic Ideals.

Throughout history, SEGAS has been awarded with several distinctions from national and international Organizations. More recently, the European Athletics Championships (1969 , 1982 & 1985/Indoor), the IAAF World Junior Championships (1986) , the IAAF Grand Prix Final (1990 & 2009), the World Marathon Cup (1995) and the 6th IAAF World Athletics Championships (1997).

Since 1983, SEGAS is the organizer of the Athens Classic Marathon, the race organized along the original Marathon course, the course of the 1st Modern Olympic Games of 1896. The Athens Classic Marathon is an AIMS member and an IAAF Gold Label race which is going to attract more than 12.000 runners in 2012, the year of the 2.500 Anniversary since the Marathon Battle.

AIMS is an association of 300 race organisations in 90 countries which fosters and promotes the sport of distance running throughout the world, through such initiatives as the AIMS Children's Series and the AIMS-Marathon Museum of Running.
